Middletown, VA
2010 National Reunion

New Gossenhoppen

New Gossenhoppen

Saturday, we visited the town of Strasburg where we enjoyed a picnic.
Even though it ended up being the hottest day of the year, over 100 degrees,
Strasburg still provided beutiful views of the valley and local attractions like the Strasburg Museum.

The Shenandoah Valley, both north and south of Middletown, is rich in Civil War history.
Cedar Creek Battlefield lies between the towns of Strasburg and Middletown.

The Wayside Inn, America's oldest continually run inn was where some of us booked our accomodations.
It was also where we enjoyed lunch in what was called the 'Slave Kitchen'.

After the reunion, I drove over to where the members in the Shambaugh family were buried,
or least to where their stones were moved to.

The best I can figure, the cemetery was too close to the
shoulder of where Interstate 66 was going thru so the
stones were moved to the cemetery located behind
Reliance Methodist Church.
